The road safety authority said it will start a sensitization of people in churches and mosques to educate them on how to maintain safety on the roads during the rainy season.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has stepped up its fight against traffic offenders in Akwa Ibom, by arresting twenty-five persons for traffic related offences.
The erring persons were arrested on Wednesday, June 15, 2016, during the FRSC’s “Operation Good morning, Uyo” in the state.
According to Mrs. Cecilia Alao, the State Sector Commander, the exercise was part of the institution’s attempt to clamp down against drivers without licences and under alcohol influence.
Alao said, “This operation is aimed at bringing sanity to our roads. Within the space of one hour today, we made 25 arrests.”
“Out of these 25, 11 were arrested for driving licence violation while four had fake driving licences.”
“The rest of the 14 offenders were arrested for not using their seatbelts while driving.”
“If you want to drive, you must go through the normal process by obtaining a valid driving licence.”
In addition, the commander mentioned that the FRSC have outlined plans to start sensitization at religious centres, churches and mosques, on how to prevent accidents during the rainy season.
